Ready for the crest

I have been watching and watching the news for the past week as all of the people of Minot (North Dakota) have done to keep up with the latest information.  I feel like a boxer in the 9th round of a heavy weight bout who has been hit with punch after punch after I watch the water rise on the city. Currently just after 9:00 am the Souris River level is at 1561.53 and still two feet from the projected crest which is expected in the late night hours tonight or early Sunday morning.

For myself, and I am sure everybody of Minot, we are ready for the crest of the Mouse river.  The water is not supposed to subside substantially for a week or two, but residents want to get back in to their homes to start the process to rebuild their lives and homes.  Ward county and Burleigh county got word yesterday that they are now eligible for individual assistance from FEMA. Its great news and we can thank our congressmen, mayor and governor for that good news.

I took a little “me” time and went and played tennis for an hour and a half yesterday afternoon and I managed to watch the Chicago Cubs win their ball game last night.  Today, I have a wedding that I am attending.  They have also been affected by the flood, their home had been inundated with water, there is NO rooms in Minot or surrounding areas, but they forged on and their wedding will happen today.  We have strong willed people in Minot who will not have a flood dictate their lives.
